ATA Martial Arts – Integrity

Students of martial arts are taught to live with integrity and honesty. In the context of martial arts, integrity and honesty can be used interchangeably. When one is honest and has a strong moral fiber, we say that the person has integrity.

Martial arts teach valuable lessons for life. Apart from self-defense, students learn focus, perseverance and work-life balance. They also learn about the benefits of hard work and integrity.

Integrity and martial artists

Integrity is very crucial in a martial artist. Martial artists are taught to honor their word, in all circumstances. They must do the right things at all times whether they are being watched or not. When they say they will do something, they will do it whatever comes their way. Such people are trustworthy and you can depend on them to get you out of a tight spot. Wouldn’t you want to be such a person, someone who others look up to and respect?

Integrity of speech

A martial artist should also practice integrity of speech. It is an important virtue in martial arts. For example, by avoiding foul language and not speaking ill of others, you practice integrity of speech. When you speak nicely, everyone around you is happy. Whatever your vocation be, integrity in speech will bring you accolades. In business, it can help you become financially successful. In your home, it will bring prosperity and harmony. When you are in society, good speech will earn you praises. People want to be around those who are good in speech.

A martial artist is always discreet. When people are indiscreet, they become irrational, arrogant, and bring stress and unhappiness to others.

An example to demonstrate integrity

Let’s consider the example of a student who has been given an important assignment. Many students will not start working on it till the last minute. If they manage to do it, they will end up doing a messy job of it. If they cannot, they will make excuses as to why they were not able to do the job. What they do not realize is that it is the test of their integrity. It is the unspoken agreement between you and the teacher that you will complete the assignment. You are expected to follow through with the job. ATA Martial Arts helps students learn the right steps to utilizing a high level of integrity.

This lack of effort is partly due to a culture of instant gratification that has developed. People expect a reward first and then they will follow through with the expectations placed on them. If you have fallen into such a lifestyle, learning martial arts from ATA Martial Arts help you get your life back on track and bring about a more positive and well balanced life style.
